Sundays are made for relaxing and sometimes…for writing poetry. I’ve written poetry since I was a child. This is the earliest poem that I can remember writing (or since my memory is questionable, maybe I swiped it from another author…who knows?)

I have to laugh when I see a giraffe
He's a physical wreck
with a heck of a neck
I can't say much for why I do
but I say the same thing for a kangaroo

So…here I am, years later, still rhyming. There is something comforting to me in watching a poem evolve and seeing the words play off each other…sometimes having to go back and forth, trying to find exactly the right word. Here is my poem for this evening after thinking about upcoming birthdays. Happy Sunday and I hope you are also doing something relaxing this evening!

Wisdom

If I could give you anything
What would I think to give?
What would I find important
to add to the life you live?
I'd give the gift of wisdom
to learn from your mistakes
to know when to push your limits
and know when to hit the brakes
To see your faults so clearly
that you are able to give grace
but you give yourself that also
and dont give perfection chase
You take pride in your achievments
but give credit where it's due
and be the one that others look to
when they need to be renewed
So wisdom is the gift I'd give
to provide for you in life
that I don't know how to gift it
since it seems to come from stife.
So while your life gives lessons
know at times that it will sting
but I'll be here if you need me
with what widsom I can bring
